Bill Frisell presents his latest album project, “Four,” a beautiful meditation consisting of 13 tracks on loss, renewal, and friendships. The guitarist and composer, with his third album for Blue Note Records since signing with the label in 2019, offers new interpretations of previously recorded Frisell originals and nine new songs. Produced by Lee Townsend, the session brings together a new lineup of musical friends, independent spirits, and like-minded individuals: Blue Note labelmates Gerald Clayton on piano and Johnathan Blake on drums, along with long-time collaborator Greg Tardy on saxophone, clarinet, and bass clarinet.

Lorenzo Simoni, an eclectic saxophonist and composer who has always been torn between classical concert performances and improvised music, after playing with individual members of the group for several years, decides to combine the qualities and experiences of each member to create a quartet consisting of some of the best young jazz musicians in Italy: Guglielmo Santimone on piano, Giulio Scianatico on double bass, and Simone Brilli on drums.
The repertoire, featuring original compositions by the leader, develops elements such as melody, dance, and improvisation to guide the listener through a unique musical experience. As a group, they are winners of the international Marco Tamburini and Tomorrow’s Jazz 2022 awards.
