Introduction by Francesco Martinelli
Francesca Corrias, one of the most important voices in the national jazz scene, returns to the spotlight with “De Diora” exactly eleven years after the successful release of “Frattale,” her first album with the legendary Sunflower quartet. Once again, she reunites with her old musical companions for a fascinating new production filled with sounds, melodies, and atmospheres, all sung entirely in the Campidanese dialect of Sardinian.
Images, customs, and words emerge from the past and transform into songs through the compositions of the Sunflower quartet, with their warm sound and influences ranging from Brazil to the Mediterranean. Led by Filippo Mundula on double bass, Sandro Mura on piano, and Pierpaolo Frailis on drums, this ensemble has created a project where nothing is left to chance. The fundamental poetic and linguistic guidance of writer Maria Gabriela Ledda guided Francesca in the exploration of the most beautiful and profound forms of the Campidanese language. The arrangements and scores for strings and winds were carefully curated by Silvano Lobina. The album also features a few precious guests, including Marco Argiolas on saxophones, Matteo Sedda on trumpet, Gianluca Pischedda on cello, Olesya Emelyanenko on violin, Luca Faraone on guitars, and Massimo Ferra on guitar for a special performance.
“De Diora” is an ambitious project where identity meets universality, blending jazz and songs in the Sardinian language.
