The absolute star of funk trombone arrives in Pisa as part of a tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary formation that accompanied James Brown for a significant part of his career. In addition to being an excellent instrumentalist, Fred Wesley is also a composer, arranger, and singer, showcasing his talent for delivering great black music over the years, both with notable figures in the genre and as a solo artist.
Wesley began his career at a young age, playing with Ike & Tina Turner, and then moved on to the epochal experience with James Brown. He has collaborated with illustrious figures such as George Clinton and his two famous bands, Parliament and Funkadelic, as well as Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Randy Crawford, Vanessa Williams, The SOS Band, Cameo, Van Morrison, Socalled, De La Soul, and many other artists and groups with diverse stylistic signatures. With an inexhaustible passion for music, Wesley continues to compose and record to this day, along with his jazz-funk band, The New JBs.
